1987-07-15 Louie Espinoza w rsc 15 (15) Manuel Vilchez, Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona, USA - WBA. Referee: Julio Alverado. Roared on by an enthusiastic crowd, Espinoza (122) dominated from the opening bell, but despite having too much power for the challenger he was unable to make it pay until the final session. Apart from being a clever boxer Vilchez (120) also proved to be most resilient, and time and again he fought back before being ground down in the 15th when he was extremely tired. Put down by a left hook, after the brave Venezuelan got to his feet, having nothing left he was rescued by the referee with just 1.04 left on the clock.
