1987-07-15 Louie Espinoza w rsc 15 (15) Manuel Vilchez, Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum, Phoenix, Arizona, USA - WBA. Referee: Julio Alverado. Roared on by an enthusiastic crowd, Espinoza (122) dominated from the opening bell and despite having too much power for the challenger was unable to make it pay until the final session. Apart from being a clever boxer, Vilchez (120) also proved to be most resilient and time and again fought back before being ground down in the 15th when he was extremely tired. Put down by a left hook, the brave Venezuelan got to his feet but had nothing left and was rescued by the referee with just 1.04 left on the clock.
