1987-08-22 [[Marlon Starling]] w co 11 (15) [[Mark Breland]], Columbia Township Auditorium, South Carolina, USA - WBA. Referee: Tony Perez. Although he moved ahead of his challenger the danger signs were always there for Breland (146), and he was either pushed or wrestled to the floor on seven occasions in the opening seven rounds. In the eighth, Breland took a low blow and was given time out, but Starling (146) was looking much stronger at this stage of the fight. The ninth saw Breland weakening before he came back well in the tenth, but in the 11th he was all over the place as Starling laid into him. Staggered by a right to the head, Breland was driven across the ring before being dropped to the floor by a left hook to the head and being counted out after 1.38 of the session.
