1987-09-05 Virgil Hill w rsc 4 (15) Leslie Stewart, Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Vincent Rainone. Boxing on the back foot and countering well, the challenger made a solid start before opening up in the fourth round after cutting Stewart over the left eye. With Stewart in disarray, Hill came on strong and a left hook-right cross had the man from Trinidad over. Up at ‘eight’, Stewart looked like a beaten man as Hill tore in throwing punches from all angles, and he was soon on the floor again. Although Stewart tried to make it to his feet in time it was a wasted effort, the referee stopping the fight without completing the count as the bell rang to end the round. During their convention held in October, the WBA announced that in future all world title bouts contested under their auspices would be contested over 12 rounds.
