4 October Wilfredo Vazquez w rsc 10 (15) Chan-Young Park, Hilton Convention Centre, Seoul, South Korea - WBA. Referee: Lou Moret. Park (117½) started well throwing fast jabs, but he fell apart following his decision to slug it out with Vazquez (117¼) in the fifth round. Coming off worse, Park only just made it up on time after a countering right had dropped him heavily and cut his left eye badly. Somehow, the recess between rounds lasted for two minutes, 15 seconds without a bell before both men were called for action. Park seemed to have recovered well before taking an ‘eight’ count in the seventh, but was then battered from pillar to post and dropped again in the ninth before he could take no more and the referee rescued him 43 seconds into the tenth after he had turned his back on Vazquez. At the WBA convention held later that month it was decided that all future world title contests held under their banner for the weight class would be contested over 12 rounds.
