1987-10-29 Charles Williams w rtd 9 (15) Bobby Czyz, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Carlos Padilla. It look likely to be an early night as Czyz (173¾) floored Williams (172¼) with a right to the head in the second round and in the next session sent the latter heavily into the ropes, which brought about a standing ‘eight’ count. At the same time Czyz’s right eye was starting to close and probably explained the reason for Williams’ fight back from the fourth round onwards. Having got himself right back in the fight and ahead on the cards, Williams came out for the ninth, boxing coolly and at the same time sending in hurtful blows. Although Williams picked up a cut over right eye in that session, it made no difference to the result, the champion being retired on his stool at the end of the session.
