1987-11-12 [[Roger Mayweather]] w rsc 6 (12) [[Rene Arredondo]], Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Lou Filippo. With the champion fighting cautiously during the opening four rounds, Mayweather (139), nicknamed the ‘Black Mamba’, was able to get into the fight on his own terms, using the jab well and occasionally crossing the right to effect. Arredondo (139) finally opened up in the fifth and he carried that aggression into the sixth, throwing big punches from either hand, but that was just what Mayweather had been waiting for. Letting fly with a big right he dropped Arredondo and although the latter got up he was put down twice more before the referee had seen enough and rescued him immediately following the third knockdown, after two minutes of the session.
