1987-12-05 Evander Holyfield w co 4 (15) Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF/WBA. Referee: Randy Neumann. Although Holyfield (187) was also recognised by both the IBF and the WBA, the latter’s version of the title was not at stake in this one as it was contested over 15 (not 12) rounds. A return match, this one was bridge too far for Qawi (190), as the champion both outjabbed and outpunched him right from the start. Surprisingly, Qawi showed some of his old form in the third, landing solidly from both hands, but in the fourth Holyfield made his move and following a two-handed assault he had Qawi over with a left hook. Although Qawi made it to his feet he was soon under attack again and at 2.30 of the session he was counted out in a sitting position after being hit by a heavy right to the head.
