1988-01-23 Calvin Grove w rsc 4 (15) Antonio Rivera, Sports Palace, Gamaches, France - IBF. Referee: Rudy Battle. Making his first defence, Rivera (125¾) started well with hurtful punches which unsettled Grove (126) before the latter came back strongly in the third when beginning to put his punches together. After Grove, by now cut under the right eye, was dropped by a left hook at the start of the fourth it did not look good, but he got up at ‘nine’ to make a dramatic comeback when flooring Rivera with a right. Although Rivera got to his feet quickly and landed heavily, Grove would not be denied, a right uppercut followed by a left hook having the former down again for a count of ‘seven’. This time round, the referee halted the action with 48 seconds of the session remaining when it was clear that Rivera was unable to continue.
