1988-02-07 Frank Tate w co 10 (15) Tony Sibson, Bingley Hall, Stafford, England - IBF. Referee: Frank Cappuccino. Although he was in the fight for eight rounds despite having to take some heavy punches along the way, Sibson (160) found the champion a far different proposition in the ninth when the American finally began to open up having appeared almost lethargic at times. At this stage, Boxing News had Tate (160) two points up but that counted for nothing as Sibson appeared to stand off before a long right hand dropped him for the full count with just seven seconds remaining of round ten. Sibson, who had been a pro for 12 years, announced his retirement immediately after the fight.
