1988-02-14 Buddy McGirt w rsc 12 (15) Frankie Warren, Memorial Coliseum, Corpus Christi, Texas, USA - IBF. Referee: Barry Yeats. Contesting the title vacated by Terry Marsh’s retirement, McGirt (139¾) was dominant from start to finish, using the left jab as a punishing weapon and following it up with solid rights and left hooks when sweeping Warren (138½) before him. Warren fought a game battle, but after being badly hurt in the first prior to suffering damage to both eyes and dropped for the first time in his career in the eighth it was all uphill. After Warren’s left eye was closed shut in the previous session, although he launched courageous two-handed attacks in the ninth and tenth his time was almost up. Allowed to come out for the 12th, Warren was soon under pressure as McGirt began to unload at will, and at 1.34 of the session it was all over after the referee decided that enough was enough.
