1988-04-03 Virgil Hill w rsc 11 (12) Jean-Marie Emebe, Civic Centre, Bismarck, North Dakota, USA - WBA. Referee: Roberto Ramirez. Making his first defence, Hill (174) was far too good for his game challenger, who was effectively boxed to a standstill before he was dropped in the 11th and rescued by the referee at 1.29 of the session after getting up and being hammered without respite. Emebe (173) had his moments, especially in the eighth when Hill was cut over the left eye after a two-fisted attack, but they were few and far between. By the end of the tenth Emebe looked a beaten fighter, his right eye badly swollen and his body weary from the pounding he had received, and it was no surprise that he succumbed in the 11th.
