1988-04-16 Marlon Starling drew 12 Mark Breland, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBA. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 116-113, 114-115, 114-114. In a rematch and fighting a different kind of campaign, Breland (146) came on towards the finish to snatch a draw as the champion ran out of steam, but as a title fight it was unimpressive. There were no knockdowns and was messy throughout, with neither man being able to assert himself totally on the other. Although Starling (146½), who finished with both eyes swollen, threw the heavier blows there were not enough of them, while Breland stuck with the left jab and right-hand counters in a contest best forgotten.
