1988-04-23 Simon Brown w rsc 14 (15) Tyrone Trice, Sports Palace, Berck Sur Mer, France - IBF. Referee: Steve Smoger. Contesting the vacant title, the signs were not good for Brown (146) after he was dropped by a heavy right to the head in the second round when the lanky Trice (146) got to him with a cluster of big punches, but by the fourth he was back in the fight. By the seventh Brown was beginning to land the heavier shots and following sustained pressure a tiring Trice was dropped three times in the 12th and saved by the bell. Somehow managing to survive the 13th when holding and back-pedalling, Trice came back bravely in the 14th to hurt Brown before running into a right to the jaw that sent him down flat on his face. Although Trice managed to beat the count he was now a sitting target for Brown’s heavy punches and after two powerful left hooks had him sagging at the knees the referee came to his rescue with 31 seconds of the session remaining.
