1988-06-03 Graciano Rocchigiani w pts 15 Nicky Walker, Deutschland Hall, Berlin, Germany - IBF. Referee: Waldemar Schmidt. Scorecards: 146-137, 148-140, 147-137. Making his first defence, Rocchigiani (167½) dominated the fight from the second round through to the tenth and although shaking Walker (167¾) up on occasion he was never able to drop him. Realising he needed a kayo, the last five sessions saw Walker picking up the pace, but he was never able to stop Rocchigiani from advancing and the latter easily took the 14th and 15th with constant use of the southpaw jab. Both men finished with cut eyes, Rocchigiani over the right optic and Walker over the left, the champion’s damage being the worse. This would be the last 15-round contest for the weight class, following the announcement that, as from 1 September, all world title contests held under the auspices of the IBF would be restricted to 12 rounds, the body thus falling into line with the WBA and WBC.
