1988-06-06 [[Iran Barkley]] w rsc 3 (12) [[Thomas Hearns]], Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Richard Steele. Starting in dominant fashion, the champion made a quick start when opening up with big punches, but with Barkley (160) still right in front of him he was taking too many risks by not maintaining a proper defensive strategy. Still, there was no sign as to what was to come in the third as Hearns (160) continued where he left off in the second and before long Barkley, cut over both eyes, was under big pressure following a battery of lefts and rights to the body. Then it happened. Having exchanged punches with Barkley in the centre of the ring, Hearns, pulling away to survey his work, was caught by a big right over the top of his low defence that smashed into the side of his face and sent him crashing to the floor. Somehow getting up, Hearns was bundled through the ropes on to the ring apron, whereupon the referee stopped the fight with 21 seconds of the session remaining.
