1988-06-12 Sumbu Kalambay w pts 12 Robbie Sims, Sports Palace, Raveona, Italy - WBA. Referee: John Coyle. Scorecards: 118-110, 117-113, 119-113. The half-brother of Marvin Hagler, Sims (159¼) took the fight to the champion right from the start and staggered him with a southpaw right in the second round. That was Sims’ best chance as Kalambay (158¾) soon settled down and from the third onwards the American was being caught by left jabs, hooks and solid rights. Although Sims kept up the attacks he was being picked off and in the eighth he was badly hurt by a heavy right uppercut. He was under pressure again in the tenth and 11th when shipping hard lefts and rights, but continued to press right to the final bell in the vain hope of finding a winning punch.
