1988-06-25 [[Azumah Nelson]] w rsc 9 (12) [[Lupe Suarez]], Trump Plaza Casino Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBC. Referee: Tony Perez. Having made a relatively slow start after being cut on the right eye in the second round, Nelson 129¼) took some time to get his combinations going, while the southpaw challenger kept busy throwing plenty of leather. Suarez (130) was right in the fight at the commencement of the eighth, but was shaken up by lefts and rights in that session and although he rallied well he was carrying the marks of the trade. Coming out strong in the ninth, Nelson soon put Suarez down again after raining in punches and although the latter got up at the count of five the referee completed the ‘eight’ count before signalling that it was all over on the 27-second mark.
