1988-06-27 Jung-Koo Chang w rsc 8 Hideyuki Ohashi, Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Defending abroad for the first time, Chang (108) displayed ferocity and fire to leave Japan with his title intact, while Ohashi (108), having been floored seven times and stopped at 1.47 of the eighth round, was comprehensively beaten.

After Chang relinquished his WBC version of the title in October due to illness and weight-making problems, German Torres and Soon-Jung Kang were matched to find a new champion.
