1988-07-08 [[Donald Curry]] w rtd 9 [[Gianfranco Rosi]], The Portosole, San Remo, Italy - WBC. Referee: Octavio Meyran. The champion started well enough when shaking Curry (153¾) with a right hand in the opening round, but after that it was all down hill as the latter began to put his punches together. Knocked down by a short left hook in the second, Rosi was floored again in the fourth, three times in the seventh and once in the eighth. By that time it was clear that Rosi could not take Curry’s punches and in the ninth after his legs were buckled by another big right it had become a hopeless position. It was thus no surprise when, at the end of the session, he retired, claiming an injured hand. Curry, despite being cut over both eyes at the finish, obviously hit too hard for Rosi and while not the classy box-fighter of a year or so previously he was far too good for the Italian.
