1988-07-09 Orlando Canizales w rsc 15 (15) Kelvin Seabrooks, Sands Casino Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Rudy Battle. Surviving a cut left eye and a broken right hand, Canizales (118) followed his brother, Gaby, in becoming a world champion when forcing the referee to rescue Seabrooks (118) after 63 seconds of the final round. Although down in the first, Seabrooks (118) came back strongly despite getting caught with solid punches, but was way behind on points when giving it a go in the last round and being knocked over by a big right to the head. Getting up quickly he was being pounded without reply when the referee intervened.
A short while later, the IBF decided that, from 1 September, they would fall into line with the other commissions in stipulating 12 rounds as the championship distance, this fight effectively being the last one contested over 15 rounds within the weight class.
