1988-08-29 Samuth Sithnaruepol w pts 15 In-Kyu Hwang, Rajadamnern Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand - IBF. Referee: John Wheeler. Scorecards: 146-144, 146-142, 147-144. In what was the last IBF title fight to be held over 15 rounds, the southpaw Sithnaruepol (105) boxed well within himself to retain the championship on points over an outclassed Hwang (103). With a longer reach the champion controlled the action and countered the willing challenger heavily, especially in the last few rounds.

Prior to the fight, the IBF had announced that they would be restricting all world title bouts held under their auspices to 12 rounds from 1 September, thus falling in line with the WBC and WBA and from thereon all world title bouts for the weight class would be contested over 12 rounds.
