1988-09-03 Meldrick Taylor w rsc 12 Buddy McGirt, Harrah’s Marina Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Although shaken up by a left hook in the opener the challenger soon got his game together to give McGirt (138¼) a bit of a boxing lesson. As the fight wore on the latter began to take more and more punishment, his head being rocked sideways by left hooks and right hands. Even when McGirt got in hurtful punches Taylor (140) would come right back with some of his own, and after two minutes of the final round with the former looking completely fatigued and reeling around the ring from a two-handed attack the referee came to his rescue. With McGirt ultimately outclassed, having suffered a bad cut over the left eye following a clash of heads in the final session the stoppage was a good one.
