1988-09-22 Roger Mayweather w rsc 12 Rodolfo Gonzalez, Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBC. Referee: Lou Filippo. Continuing his domination of Mexican fighters, the champion stopped a game but outclassed Gonzalez (140) at 2.13 of the final round after the latter had been dropped by a big right to the head and was taking punches without reply. From the start, Mayweather (140) had dominated without setting the world alight, being content to box patiently before sending in some tremendous blows from both hands as the fight progressed. In the latter stages it became obvious that Gonzalez, by now carrying a badly swollen left eye, wasn’t going to win as he came under fire more and more and the stoppage when it came was overdue.
