1988-11-04 Michael Nunn w co 8 Juan Domingo Roldan, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Richard Steele. Making his first defence, the unbeaten Nunn (160) was in control virtually throughout, having started well when dropping Roldan (160) in the opening session. As the fight progressed the southpaw champion showed his ability to either box at long range or at close quarters, where he gave the dangerous Roldan a taste of his own medicine. The Argentinian fought back somewhat in the seventh with strong rights to Nunn’s head and he again tagged the champion at the beginning of the eighth. Instead of backing off, Nunn was stirred into action, coming back hard to blast Roldan with a whole range of punches, and as the latter wilted he was despatched for the full count at 2.28 of the session after being caught by a left uppercut to the jaw. Unfortunately for Nunn he picked up an inch-long cut over his left eye in the final seconds of the contest.
