1988-11-04 Robert Hines w pts 12 Matthew Hilton, Hilton Hotel, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - IBF. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Scorecards: 116-110, 113-111, 112-111. Floored twice, in the second and third rounds, and badly hurt on several occasions by booming right hands from the wild-swinging Hilton (154) at that stage it seemed that the southpaw challenge of Hines (152) would be a short one. However, with both eyes swollen Hines somehow managed to stay in the fight against all the odds and then began to take over from the sixth as Hilton tired badly. Deducted a point for low blows in the eighth, Hilton was now up against it as Hines drilled in solid shots to head and body and although the champion came back with a vicious final attack in the 11th once that subsided the fight was virtually over.
