1988-11-07 Roger Mayweather w pts 12 Vinny Pazienza, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 118-108, 117-110, 117-110. Controlling the fight with his stabbing left hand the champion was generally the master of the tough Pazienza (140), apart from occasionally being caught by flurries of blows and left hooks. Once Mayweather (140) had got his right hand into play it got more difficult for Pazienza, who was dropped in the fourth and cut over the left eye in the sixth before being put down again, this time by a right uppercut in the 11th. The last two rounds were brutal for Pazienza, being forced to take plenty of punishment as Mayweather went looking for him. It was amazing that Pazienza, carrying a lump under his right eye, was still standing in the 12th, and although his legs buckled several times he continued to bravely soak up everything until the final bell.
