1989-03-05 Tony Lopez w pts 12 Rocky Lockridge, Arco Arena, Sacramento, California, USA - IBF. Referee: Robert Byrd. Scorecards: 116-111, 114-112, 117-109. Dropped in the third round of this rematch, having almost been floored in the opener, Lockridge (129¾) fought his way back in the fifth to open up a bad cut over the champion’s left eye. With the cut worsening Lockridge came on strong, driving Lopez (130) to the ropes with jabs and banging in body punches, but he was now carrying damage to his left eye which made for poor vision. Both men traded solidly in the eighth, and although Lockridge scored with several good punches from then on it was Lopez, finishing the stronger, who warranted the decision.
