1989-03-06 Hector Camacho w pts 12 Ray Mancini, Lawlor Events Centre, Reno, Nevada, USA - WBO. Referee: Mills Lane. Scorecards: 115-113, 115-113, 112-116. Camacho (140) became the WBO’s first champion at the weight when outscoring Mancini (139), the former lightweight king, but he was made to work hard when constantly being chased down and harried at every turn. This was Mancini’s first fight in four years and he gave it everything he had against the fast-moving southpaw, who jabbed and clinched his way through the contest. He also landed some good punches, but so did Mancini. By the seventh, Camacho appeared to be handing out a boxing lesson and although that didn’t last when Mancini came on strong again, it was the latter picking up most of the damage. Following the tenth, which Mancini won, there was little in it, but it was Camacho who had more left in the tank as he picked his man off to just about get home on two of the cards.
