1989-04-22 John David Jackson w rsc 8 Steve Little, Auburn Hills Palace, Detroit, Michigan, USA - WBO. Dominating from the start against a challenger who had been beaten in his last two outings, although Jackson (152) won easily enough he was unable to knock his man over and had to rely on a cut eye stoppage after 37 seconds of the eighth to maintain his title status. Why the WBO should give Little (152¾) an opportunity to win one of their titles was the question being asked at ringside, especially as he was so negative, clutching and defending throughout. Outboxed all the way by the southpaw champion, it was almost a relief when the referee deemed that the damage to Little’s right eye was too severe for him to carry on.
