1989-04-30 Pernell Whitaker w rsc 3 Louie Lomeli, The Scope, Norfolk, Virginia, USA - IBF. Referee: Al Rothenberg. Boxing brilliantly the champion went after Lomeli (134½) from the start, rocking him with a solid left hand and constantly keeping the southpaw jab in his face. Nothing changed in the second session and in the third Whitaker (134¾) really opened up when smashing Lomeli to the floor with a big left. Although Lomeli got to his feet on unsteady legs he was allowed to continue after the mandatory ‘eight’ count, but was immediately assailed by Whitaker who hammered in a series of unanswered blows to head and body before the referee jumped in and called it off with 17 seconds of the session remaining.
