1989-04-30 Pernell Whitaker w rsc 3 Louie Lomeli, The Scope, Norfolk, Virginia, USA - IBF. Referee: Al Rothenberg. Boxing brilliantly, the champion went after Lomeli (134½) from the start, rocking him with a solid left hand and constantly keeping the southpaw jab in his face. Nothing changed in the second session before Whitaker (134¾) really opened up in the third when smashing Lomeli to the floor with a big left. Although Lomeli got to his feet on unsteady legs he was allowed to continue after the mandatory ‘eight’ count, but was immediately assailed by Whitaker. With Whitaker hammering in a series of unanswered blows to head and body, the referee jumped in and called it off with 17 seconds of the session remaining.
