1989-05-02 Muangchai Kitikasem w pts 12 Tacy Macalos, Lumpini Stadium, Bangkok, Thailand - IBF. Referee: John Wheeler. Scorecards: 118-115, 117-115, 112-118. On winning the title controversially to say the least, Kitikasem (108) became Thailand’s 14th champion, having set the pace for three rounds before settling down to avoid a slugging duel as Macalos (107) unloaded savage combinations. After injuring his right hand in the ninth, Kitikasem was booed by the home crowd as he got on his bicycle and showed a distinct lack of effort needed to win a title, despite convincing two of the judges.
