1989-06-07 Dave McAuley w pts 12 Duke McKenzie, The Arena, Wembley, London, England - IBF. Referee: Randy Neumann. Scorecards: 117-113, 115-113, 115-113. McAuley (112) finally got his hands on the title when outfighting and outboxing McKenzie (112), who was unable to subdue the Irishman over 12 absorbing rounds. It was third time lucky for McAuley, who survived damage to both eyes, while McKenzie not only lost his title but his unbeaten record also. McKenzie’s best weapon was the left jab, but that was nullified when he allowed the Irishman to fight at close quarters for much of the time and although he got in some heavy blows it was the challenger who looked more likely to win inside the distance.
