1989-06-12 [[Sugar Ray Leonard]] drew 12 [[Thomas Hearns]], Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA – WBC/WBO. Referee: Richard Steele. Scorecards: 113-112, 112-113, 112-112. Despite being badly hurt himself at times during the contest, Hearns (162½) had Leonard (160) down twice, in the third and 11th, before the latter came back to snatch a draw after making a big last-round effort. Following the first knockdown, Leonard seemed to be in good working order by the fifth and he shook Hearns up several times in that session. The next five rounds were almost uneventful by both mens’ standards, but after the 11th, in which Leonard showed his courage to survive, the final round saw Hearns struggling under a barrage of blows and by the bell he was almost spent. The result saw both men retain their respective titles, even though the WBO belt was not officially up for grabs.
