1989-07-15 Gianfranco Rosi w pts 12 Darrin Van Horn, Trump Castle Hotel, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Tony Perez. Scorecards: 117-109, 118-108, 116-109. In what was a huge upset, the former WBC champion, Rosi (153), took the title from Van Horn (154) by a wide margin, controlling the fight throughout after knocking the latter down in the opening round with a left-right combination. Van Horn doggedly held on to get to the end of the session, but was given a boxing lesson despite hurting Rosi occasionally with big punches of his own. However, Van Horn continued to be hit as Rosi cleverly mixed up his punches, especially when pulling out of clinches to land lefts and rights and making it difficult for the youngster when at range. Finishing the fight the stronger of the pair, Rosi came on in the 11th and 12th to totally dominate the action as Van Horn tired, landing good, solid shots from both hands before scoring another knockdown following a big left hook prior to the final bell.
