1989-07-30 Julian Jackson w rsc 2 Terry Norris, Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBA. Referee: Joe Cortez. Having boxed a smart fight in the first round, the challenger, showing plenty of lateral movement, even shook Jackson (153¼) up on occasion to win the session on all three cards. It later transpired that Jackson wanted to see what his rival could do. After sizing Norris (152) up he took the latter to the ropes in the second before smashing in a cracking right to the head that dropped him heavily. Surprisingly up ‘nine’, although shaky and unsteady on his legs, the referee had a good look at Norris before deciding that he was not fit to continue on the 1.37 mark.
Jackson relinquished the WBA version of the title in September 1990 to challenge for the vacant WBC middleweight crown, an action that was followed by Gilbert Dele and Carlos Elliott coming together to decide who would be the new champion.
