1989-08-30 [[Mauricio Aceves]] w rsc 10 [[Oscar Bejines]], Sports Arena, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBO. Referee: Larry Rozadilla. Outboxed and outpunched for the first nine rounds, the champion was so far behind on the cards that the only way for him to win was by knocking Bejines (134¾) out. With Aceves (135) cut over both eyes and having been outclassed that senario looked highly unlikely, but Bejines suddenly began to come apart at the seams in the tenth and the fight took on another twist. Giving it a real go, and with his opponent wilting, Aceves forced Bejines to the ropes before unleashing a tremendous left hook which dropped him heavily. Surprisingly up at the count of ‘five’, Bejines looked to carry on after the mandatory ‘eight’, only to be rescued by the referee who decided he wasn’t fit to continue. At the time of the stoppage there was 54 seconds of the session remaining.
