1989-08-31 Rafael Torres w pts 12 Yamil Caraballo, Jaragua Hotel, Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic - WBO. Scorecards: 116-111, 117-113, 115-112. With two unbeaten men fighting to become the World Boxing Organisation’s first champion at the weight it was the more aggressive Torres who prevailed. The Dominican flyweight champion was just too good for Caraballo, and after having the latter on the floor in round eight he moved ahead to well deserve the unanimous decision in his favour. It was always competitive, but Caraballo never quite came to terms with Torres’ awkward southpaw stance.
