Coming into this contest the challenger had lost his last three contests, but he started well as the crude Benichou struggled to find his feet. Gradually getting on top, Benichou, despite being cut over the left eye in round six, continued to get to Cruz and made a great effort over the last three rounds to make sure of the verdict.
