Coming into this contest the challenger had lost his last three contests, but he started well as the crude Benichou (121¼)  struggled to find his feet. Gradually getting on top, Benichou, despite being cut over the left eye in round six, continued to get to Cruz (122) and made a great effort over the last three rounds to make sure of the verdict.
