1989-11-18 Julio Cesar Chavez w rsc 10 Sammy Fuentes, Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA - WBC. Referee: Carlos Padilla. Although he hadn’t been off his feet, by the end of the tenth Fuentes (139¾), his right eye closed shut, had been worn down to such an extent by the champion that after consulting the doctor the referee stopped the contest during the interval. It had not been one-sided all the way as Fuentes had landed a fair amount of punches on Chavez (139¾), but the latter had just walked through them while continuing the body attacks which would ultimately be the deciding factor. Yet again Chavez had steamrollered an opponent to defeat and, at that moment in time, it was difficult to see where a successful challenge would come from.
