1989-11-28 [[Robert Daniels]] w pts 12 [[Dwight Muhammad Qawi]], Baltard Pavilion, Noget Sur Marne, France - WBA. Referee: Bernie Soto. Scorecards: 115-113, 116-113, 114-115. Contesting the title left vacant by Taoufik Belbouli, both Daniels (188½) and Qawi (188½) came to fight, and at times it turned into a good old fashioned slugging session. While Daniels was the better boxer, scoring well with the jab, all too often he was prepared to get drawn in by the slower man, who relished the close-quarter work, and he often took punches he should have avoided. Coming out for the final session it was clear that Daniels thought he was ahead, doing little work and dancing out of danger, but it was much closer than he thought, with one of the judges voting for Qawi in what was a difficult fight to score.
