1989-12-11 Jesus Salud w disq 9 Juan Jose Estrada, Great Western Forum, Los Angeles, California, USA - WBA. Referee: Larry Rozadilla. Born in the Philippines and fighting out Hawaii prior to moving to San Diego, the challenger was well ahead after the first eight rounds, having floored Estrada (122) in the sixth and been awarded two points when dropped twice from low blows. After giving a tremendous display of skill, sharp punching and power to dominate, Salud (121¾) was well on the way to victory while Estrada had landed low blows throughout. Thus it came as no surprise when another low blow in the ninth sent Salud crashing in agony, the referee disqualifying Estrada after 48 seconds of the round had elapsed. Salud forfeited the WBA version of the title in April 1990 for failing to defend against Luis Mendoza.
