1990-01-07 Charles Williams w rsc 8 Frankie Swindell, Tropica Hotel & Casino, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - IBF. Referee: Tony Orlando. Making his fourth defence, Williams (172½) took a few rounds to get the measure of Swindell (175), who had initially struggled to make the weight. Working at distance before moving inside, Williams had taken over by the fifth, accurate left jabs and uppercuts being his best weapons, and in the eighth he dropped Swindell following a barrage of rights to the head. Although still dazed, Swindell got up and made it to his stool at the bell before the referee on the advice of the doctor stopped the contest during the interval.
