1990-01-15 [[Doug DeWitt]] w rtd 11 [[Matthew Hilton]], Convention Centre, Atlantic City, New Jersey, USA - WBO. Referee: Randy Neumann. Having gone well to win the opening couple of rounds, Hilton (158) had his right eye swollen shut in the third and although he continued to go relatively well up to the beginning of the eighth the fight was now being controlled by the champion. In the ninth, Hilton had a point deducted for going low, but by now DeWitt (160) was in complete charge and apart from one brief moment in the tenth when he was caught by a left-right to the jaw he was handing out a steady beating. When Hilton’s left began to close in the 11th, leaving to fight on almost blind for the last minute of the session, it was no surprise when he was retired during the interval.
