1990-01-24 Orlando Canizales w pts 12 Billy Hardy, Crowtree Leisure Centre, Sunderland, England - IBF. Referee: Rudy Battle. Scorecards: 115-113, 115-114, 113-116. Coming desperately close, Hardy (117), cut over the left eye in the sixth, gave it everything he had, only to lose by the smallest of margins on the scorecards after solving all the problems that the aggressive, hard-hitting champion had set him. Knocked down by a body punch in the ninth, the Englishman got up as if nothing had happened and from there on he banged away with straight punches to pick up the points. If it had been over the previous distance of 15 rounds, Canizales (118), who finished the contest with both eyes shut mainly due to an inability to move his head enough, would have great difficulty in lasting the course.
