1990-02-25 Virgil Hill w pts 12 David Vedder, Civic Centre, Bismark, North Dakota, USA - WBA. Referee: Eddie Eckert. Scorecards: 119-111, 119-110, 119-107. Forced to go the distance by an extremely tough and willing challenger, Hill (174¾) ended the contest with a damaged right hand after hurting it early on. Relying on the left hand was not a problem for Hill, as that was his best mode of attack anyway, but it possibly allowed Vedder (175) to stay in the fight. Despite the injury, Hill stepped the pace in the last two sessions, the ropes keeping Vedder up in the 11th after a big attack, and he came close to a stoppage in the last as the latter held on to survive.
