1990-03-24 Juan Martin Coggi w pts 12 Jose Luis Ramirez, Municipal Sports Complex, Ajaccio, Corsica, France - WBA. Referee: John Coyle. Scorecards: 118-111, 118-110, 118-111. Making his fourth defence, Coggi (139¾) quickly took control by staying at distance and scoring well with solid jabs and hooks to keep Ramirez (138½) at bay, a tactic he employed for much of the contest. Although Ramirez, a fellow southpaw, provided stubborn resistance he lacked the speed and guile required to get inside the champion’s defences, and despite plugging away gamely he had very few successes before fading completely. Ultimately, it was a relatively easy night’s work for Coggi who finished almost as fresh as he started.
