1990-04-01 Simon Brown w rsc 10 Tyrone Trice, The Armory, Washington DC, USA - IBF. Referee: Steve Smoger. While the contest was not as brutal as their previous one was there was still plenty of hard-hitting action to satisfy most of the fans, and the champion again proved to have the measure of Trice (147). Instead of boxing, Trice made the mistake of trying to outpunch Brown (146½) and was always second best despite opening up a cut over the champion’s left eye in the sixth. By the eighth the writing was on the wall for Trice, and after getting to his feet, having being dropped by a left hook to the head, he desperately hung on to get to the end of the session. Although Brown coasted through the ninth he wasted no time in the tenth, ripping into Trice with both hands, and following a burst of heavy punches that left the unprotected challenger in a bad way the referee called a halt 51 seconds into the round.
